Fraud Arrest

A 22-year-old Peterborough man is facing two fraud charges in connection with two online incidents in the past four months.

On January 8, 2021, the accused attended the Peterborough Police station and was arrested in connection with the sale of items through Facebook Marketplace in October and January.  In each case, the accused took the money for the item but did not provide the item to the buyer.

David Lundrigan of Peterborough was arrested and charged with

  • Fraud under $5000 x2

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on February 17, 2021. 

Peterborough Police encourage residents to always approach online second-hand sales with caution, including observing the merchandise in person before sending money. 

 

Assault a Police Officer Arrest

A 32-year-old Peterborough man is facing a series of charges after an incident on George Street North Monday afternoon.

At approximately, 1:30pm on January 11, 2021, officers were called by a 22-year-old woman to a home on George Street North about an unwanted man on the property.  The woman also indicated the man had been sending her unwanted messages.

When officers arrived at the scene the man started to leave in his vehicle but returned and refused to go.  During arrest, the accused kicked at officers before breaking free and running toward traffic in the area.  Officers recaptured the accused and while he was being searched, spat at an officer.  A bag suspected to be drugs was also seized from the accused.

As a result, a 32-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assaulting a police officer
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest
  • Criminal Harassment – repeatedly communicate
  • Possession of a scheduled substance
  • Failing to leave a premise when directed

The accused was held in custody and will appear in court today, January 12, 2021.

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this incident, the name of the accused will not be released.

 

Theft Arrest

A 31-year-old Peterborough man is facing a theft charge after an incident at an east end grocery store Monday.

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

At approximately, 5:30pm on January 11, 2021, officers were called to the store on Lansdowne Street East by staff reporting a man had left the store with meat that was not purchased, and that staff had stopped the man.  When officers arrived, the accused provided officers with a false name. 

As a result of further investigation, 31-year-old Donald Thibault of Peterborough was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft under $5000
  • Obstruct a Police Officer
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on February 4, 2021.

 

Theft Arrest

A 36-year-old Peterborough woman is facing theft charges after employees at two stores called police.

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. 

Just before 5:00pm on January 11, 2021, officers were called to a plaza on Chemong Road after employees at two different stores observed a woman select items and leave without purchasing them.

As a result of an investigation, 36-year-old Stephanie Boast of Peterborough was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft under $5000
  • Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on February 2, 2021.
