Manslaughter Arrest

A 24-year-old Peterborough man is facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the death of an infant in November 2020. 

The investigation began on November 22, 2020, after an infant was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre with serious injuries.  The infant was transported to a Toronto hospital and succumbed to their injuries several days later. 

The 14-month investigation involved Peterborough Police detectives, the coroner’s office, the Centre for Forensic Sciences and the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) Unit at Sick Kid’s Hospital. 

As a result of the investigation, the 24-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 with manslaughter. 

The accused was held in custody and will appear in court today, January 12, 2022.  

In order to protect the identity of the victim in this domestic incident the name of the accused will not be released.

UPDATE: Injured Infant Investigation

The Peterborough Police Service reports that the infant that was in critical condition in a Toronto hospital has succumbed to their injuries.

Peterborough Police are continuing to investigate this incident.

Injured Infant Investigation

A Peterborough infant is in a Toronto hospital with serious injuries.

On November 22, 2020, the Peterborough Police Service began an investigation involving an infant that had been taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre with serious injuries. 

The infant has since been transferred to a Toronto based hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The Peterborough Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
