Aggravated Assault Arrest

A Peterborough man is facing an aggravated assault charge after an incident Wednesday morning.

At approximately 6:15a.m. on January 5, 2022, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about a man in distress in the area of Ware Street and Locke Street in Peterborough.  Upon arrival officers learned that the male had been stabbed several times.  He was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre and later transported to a Toronto area hospital for treatment.

A search of the area by officers and the K9 Unit resulted in a male matching the description given to police being taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation 26-year-old Matthew Dakin was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Officers may be in the area for the several hours conducting their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Constable Mike Penney at 705-876-1122 X 232 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.stopcrimehere.ca
