Community Zone Traffic Detail
Members of the Peterborough Police Service Traffic Unit conducted an enforcement detail Monday, March 23, 2026, focusing on several Community Safety Zones within the City of Peterborough.
Community Safety Zones are designated on roadways where public safety is of a special concern to the community. These areas are typically around schools. The fines for offences committed in these areas are higher than in non-designated zones.
- 73 charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act throughout the day
- 69 motorists were charged with Speeding contrary to Sec. 128 of the Highway Traffic Act
- 62 of these speed charges were in designated Community Safety Zones

- 37% of speeding offenders were driving at least 25km/h over the speed limit

Pedestrian Struck Charges
A 60-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after a pedestrian was struck while lying on a road.
The incident happened around 6:00am on Monday, March 16, 2026, in the Stewart Street and Hunter Street area. The 32-year-old victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre before being taken to a Toronto hospital for treatment. Officers with the Traffic Unit investigated the incident and as a result on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, charged the driver with:
- Failing to stop after accident.
The driver is scheduled to appear in court on June 16, 2026.
