Human Trafficking Arrests

Detectives with the Peterborough Police Service Human Trafficking Unit have made two arrests in connection with a five-month investigation.

During the investigation, officers learned that the female victim had been befriended by the accused woman and forced into sex work, assaulted and held for a period of time in another city before she was able to escape.

On Monday, August 11, 2025, officers on general patrol located a 26-year-old Peterborough woman wanted on warrants for:

  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Forcible confinement
  • Material benefit from sexual services (living off the avails)
  • Material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons
  • Procuring
  • Traffick in persons
  • Fail to comply with probation order X2

The accused is currently bound by two probation orders with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. 

The accused was taken into custody and appeared in court August 12, 2025.

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, detectives with the Human Trafficking Unit acting on an arrest warrant took a 33-year-old Bowmanville man into custody.  He is charged with:

  • Forcible confinement
  • Material benefit from sexual services (living off the avails)
  • Material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons
  • Procuring
  • Traffick in persons
  • Sexual Assault
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order

The accused is currently bound by a prohibition order with the following condition to not possess any firearm.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, August 15, 2025.

As part of the investigation, a search warrant was conducted at a residence in Durham Region and the Peterborough Police Service would like to thank the Durham Region Police Tactical Unit for their assistance.

 

Harassment Arrest - Update

A 23-year-old Peterborough man charged with criminal harassment in April is now facing a new charge.

As part of the investigation earlier this year, detectives with the Peterborough Police Service Sex Crime Unit seized a cellular device.  After conducting an authorized search of the phone, detectives located disturbing images.

As a result, officers executed a search warrant on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at a Peterborough residence and a 23-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and further charged with:

  • Possession of Child Pornography

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court, August 14, 2025.
