Head of the Trent/Homecoming Weekend
Head of the Trent/Homecoming weekend (October 3-5, 2025) is here, the Peterborough Police Service and Trent University gathered to speak to the importance of celebrating safely.
Over the next few days as all things Trent will be celebrated on and off-campus, we remind students and residents to celebrate safely and respectfully. For the past number of months, we have worked with our first responder partners (Peterborough Fire and Peterborough Paramedics) along with City of Peterborough Emergency Management, Transit and Board of Works to develop a coordinated response to see us through the weekend.
“We are excited for this weekend. It’s good for the community; it’s good for Trent. They are a close working partner with us. The weather is going to be great, and we ask that people enjoy the activities and weekend responsibly,” stated Staff Sergeant Mark Reesor, Peterborough Police Service. “There will be a larger than normal police presence simply to be able to respond appropriately and ensure everyone’s safety.”
For the Peterborough Police Service this involves increasing staffing levels, including the crowd-management unit, paid duty officers and our volunteer Auxiliary Unit.
Part of the advanced planning also included meetings with neighbours and students. The Peterborough Police Auxiliary Unit has visited areas that have seen an increase in unsanctioned student activity in previous years to offer suggestions on improving property safety. The feedback on this effort has been that it was appreciated and well-received.
During large events, our 9-1-1 communicators tend to receive more calls about noise, disturbances, mischief, damage to property, and impaired driving.
We are asking that if you are celebrating to be safe, make sure everyone gets home safe and that you are being a good neighbour and community member.
We are also asking for the community’s help in ensuring the safety of all and to call if they spot any suspicious or concerning activity.
We know that this is a time of celebration with several thousand more people moving in and around our community, and we would like to see a positive and safe experience for all.
