Hallowe'en Safety Tips
Thanks to Community Services Officer Constable Chris Hardill.
Here are some tips to keep everyone safe on this exciting night!
As trick or treaters take to the neighbourhood streets this evening, the Peterborough Police Service is reminding parents, children, and motorists to keep safety top of mind. With darkness falling earlier and increased pedestrian activity throughout the evening, extra caution is key to ensuring a safe and enjoyable Halloween for everyone.
Safety Tips for Motorists
- Slow down and drive well below the posted speed limit in residential areas.
- Stay alert for children crossing mid-block or running between parked vehicles.
- Avoid distractions in the car, and keep your full attention on the road.
- While making turns be sure to check your blind spots and make your turns slowly.
Safety Tips for Parents and Trick-or-Treaters
- Be Visible: Add reflective tape or glow sticks to costumes and bags.
- Carry a flashlight to help see and be seen.
- Use sidewalks wherever possible and cross at intersections.
- Stay Together! Younger children should always be accompanied by an adult. Larger groups are easier for motorists to see.
- Check costumes: Make sure masks don't block vision and that costumes fit properly to prevent tripping.
- Avoid distractions: While walking, keep your phone away, and pay attention to traffic.
As always, community patrols will be conducted through the night helping to ensure everyone enjoys a safe Halloween night.
