Indecent Acts Arrest

A 31-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Friday afternoon.

At approximately 3:00pm on April 17, 2026, officers were called to the area of Reid Street just north of Sherbrooke Street about a man with his pants down and genitals exposed walking down the street and throwing rocks at vehicles. Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description given to police. The man started running when he saw the officers, however, they caught up with him and took him into custody.

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Indecent Act- public place
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order X3

The accused is currently bound by three probation orders with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

Fraud Warning

The Peterborough Police Service is issuing a warning after a resident was scammed out of almost $8000.

The 77-year-old victim was initially contacted on April 16, 2026, by an unknown number with the female caller identifying themselves as being from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). The caller provided a badge number and indicated that the victim was in trouble because of the contents of a package that had been intercepted while it was being imported. Over the next two days the caller convinced the victim to get money from their bank and deposit it to an account through a Bitcoin ATM.  The victim was also told they would get the money back once the issued was cleared up. They further asked the victim to withdraw as much money as possible over the weekend for payment on Monday, April 20, 2026.  At that point, the victim realized they should contact police. 

Safety Tips:

• Be very suspicious of unsolicited calls from unfamiliar numbers
• Government and law enforcement agencies will never ask you to pay to resolve a situation
• Scammers and fraudster will often be very aggressive and rely on creating a sense of urgency for you to respond and act.  It is important to resist the urgency and speak to a trusted friend or family member to get a second opinion.

Fraud Arrest

A 27-year-old Oakville man is facing charges after an investigation into a fraud incident that had been reported online in March.

In March 2026, a local business reported a fraudulent purchase of an item worth $2,500.  The suspect had used a fraudulent driver’s license and credit card not in their name to make the purchase. Through investigation, officers with Community F.I.R.S.T. were able to identify the suspect and on Friday, April 17, 2026, a 27-year-old Oakville attended the Peterborough Police Station.

He was taken into custody and charged with:

• Use, deals, acts on forged document 
• Possession of a forged document with intent 
• Fraud Under $5,000
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
• Use of credit card

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

Refusal to Comply with Demand

A 20-year-old Cobourg man is facing a charge for refusing to take a roadside test for impairment.

At approximately 2:55am on Sunday, April 19, 2026, officers were made aware of a possible impaired driver in the area of George Street and Charlotte Street. Upon arrival officers located the vehicle with the driver in the driver’s seat with their seat belt on and keys in the ignition. The driver refused to provide a sample to police.

As a result, a 20-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with:

• Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court June 2, 2026.

Theft Arrest

A 50-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after an incident Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 1:45pm on April 19, 2026, officers with Community F.I.R.S.T. were called to a business in the Borden Avenue and High Street area. Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description given to police exiting the store.  They took him into custody and retrieved just over $2000 in stolen product from the store and another store in the area.

As a result of the investigation, a 50-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Theft under $5000 X2
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order X4

The accused is currently bound by two probation orders with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, April 20, 2026.

Warrant Arrest

A 29-year-old Peterborough woman wanted on warrants was located and arrested Friday evening.

At approximately 10:35pm on April 17, 2026, officers on general patrol in the area of Aylmer Street and Hunter Street spotted the woman wanted on warrants for Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm X3, Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was Firearm and Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm as well as Failure to Attend Court after Having Appeared.  When officers approached, the woman fled on foot through several parking lots.  The officer caught up to her and took her into custody.

As a result, a 29-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested on the strength of the warrants.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
