Traffic Stop Results in Two Arrests

A traffic stop on Friday afternoon resulted in two people being arrested – one for accessory after the fact to murder and a second person wanted on five warrants for theft and failing to comply with probation.

At approximately 12:15pm on March 27, 2026, officers with the Community F.I.R.S.T Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Rubidge Street and Townsend Street area.  

A 27-year-old Peterborough man was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with having tint that obscured the interior of the vehicle.

During the stop, a male and female passenger were identified and both determined to be wanted.

1. Accessory after the Fact to Murder Arrest

A 26-year-old Peterborough woman wanted in connection with being an accessory after the fact to murder was located during a traffic stop and arrested.

At approximately 12:15pm on March 27, 2026, officers with the Community F.I.R.S.T Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Rubidge Street and Townsend Street area. During the stop, it was determined that a female passenger was wanted in connection with being an accessory after the fact to a homicide in December 2025. She was taken into custody without incident.

As a result, 26-year-old Tatum Haines of Peterborough was arrested and charged with:

  • Accessory After the Fact to Murder

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, March 28, 2026.  At that time, the accused was remanded into custody.

2. Warrant/Theft Arrest

A 43-year-old Peterborough man wanted on five warrants for theft and failing to comply was located and arrested during a traffic stop Friday afternoon.

At approximately 12:15pm on March 27, 2026, officers with the Community F.I.R.S.T Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Rubidge Street and Townsend Street area. During the stop, officers identified a male passenger as being wanted on theft under $5000 X8 and fail to comply with probation order X8.

As a result, a 43-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on the strength of the warrants.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, March 28, 2026.  

 

Mischief Arrests

Two Peterborough residents are facing charges after several reports of graffiti being spray painted on a building, street light poles and electrical boxes Friday evening.

At approximately 10:00pm on March 27, 2026, officers were called to the Safe Consumption Site about a man and a woman spray painting on the building. Upon arrival, officers located two people matching the description given to police and took them into custody.  During a search after arrest officers seized four cans of spray paint and a knife.  While looking into this incident, officers were made aware of a reported incident involving people of the same description spray painting on street light poles and electrical boxes in the Sherbrooke Street and Bethune Street area.

As a result of the investigation:

A 35-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Mischief Over $5,000
  • Mischief Under $ 5,000

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

A 32-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Mischief Over $5,000
  • Mischief Under $ 5,000

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Intimate Partner Violence Arrest

A 25-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident early Saturday morning.

At approximately 2:00am on March 28, 2026, a 9-1-1 call was received from a residence. Upon arrival, officers could hear an argument between two people in the basement.  They were about to use force to get into the basement when the door opened and a man and woman came out.  They learned from the woman that she had been struck in the face and that the man also had threatened to send intimate images to her family.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:  

  • Assault – Spousal
  • Extortion
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court

The accused is currently bound by an undertaking with the following condition: to not communicate with the victim.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

 

Intimate Partner Violence Arrest

A 29-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges in connection with an intimate partner violence incident Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 4:15pm on March 29, 2026, officers were called to a residence after a woman reported being punched, choked, scratched, struck with several items and dragged across the floor.  She was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault - Spousal
  • Assault With A Weapon  - Spousal X 2
  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm - Choke, Suffocate Or Strangle
  • Uttering Threats - Cause Death Or Bodily Harm - Spousal

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, March 30, 2026.
