Break and Enter Suspect Sought

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a residential break and enter Saturday evening.

At approximately 10:50pm on October 26, 2024, officers were called to the area of Cambridge Street and Murray Street about a break and enter in progress in which the 87-year-old homeowner had awoken to someone in their house.  Upon arrival, officers checked the residence and found that the front door had been pried open and that several rooms had been rummaged through and about $500 in jewelry taken.  Officers searched the area including a K9 track but a suspect was not located.  The homeowner was not injured.

Robbery Suspect Sought

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after two similar distraction-style incidents over the weekend.

Both incidents happened in the area of Lansdowne Place Mall and in each case the victim was approached by a female asking a random question such as what time it was or if they had a cigarette.

The first incident happened Saturday, October 26, 2024, around 6:00pm when a 71-year-old Peterborough woman waiting at a bus stop near Borden Avenue and the road to the grocery store parking lot was approached by a female.  The woman had hopped out of a small grey vehicle and asked her a question before grabbing the victim’s purse and running back to the vehicle.  The victim attempted to hold onto the purse and was dragged for a bit. The victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

The second incident happened near the rear food court entrance of the mall on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at about 3:00pm when an 84-year-old Peterborough woman was approached by a woman who got out of a small grey vehicle.  Before the victim knew it, the woman asked her a question and snatched her purse. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed from the parking lot.  The woman was not injured.

The suspect was described to police as:

  • Female
  • Thin Build
  • Approximately 5’7
  • Brown hair
  • Wearing a dark sweater

In each case a male was driving the vehicle. 

The vehicle was described to police as:

  • Older model Grey Honda FIT

Theft Suspects Sought

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a theft incident on Sunday evening.

At approximately 8:00pm on October 27, 2024, an officer on patrol in the Lansdowne Street and High Street area spotted two men run from a business with a large bag.  The officer gave chase on foot and the suspects dropped the bag before fleeing in different directions.  The officer picked up the bag and was able to return about $7200 in product to the store. 

The suspects are described as (photo for assistance):

Suspect #1:

  • White or light-skin
  • Approximately 5 ft 9in
  • Dark hair
  • Black mask
  • Black trench coat
  • Black pants
  • White and grey shoes

Suspect #2:

  • White or light-skin
  • Approximately5 ft 9in
  • Grey baseball hat
  • Black coat
  • Tan pants
  • White shoes

Impaired Arrest

A 35-year-old Ennismore man is facing an impaired charge after an incident Saturday evening.

At approximately 10:50pm on October 26, 2024, an officer on general patrol in the Lansdowne Street West and Webber Avenue area noticed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and conducted a traffic stop when the vehicle pulled into a nearby parking lot. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer observed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old Ennismore man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court December 10, 2024.
