Weapons Arrest

Two people are facing charges after an incident Friday afternoon.

At approximately 4:15pm on April 12, 2025, officers were called to the area of Lansdowne Street and Ashburnham Drive about a disturbance in a parking lot.  Upon arrival, officers learned that three males were spotted in the parking lot and one of them may have had a firearm.  Officers started searching the area with the assistance of K9 and the RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) Unit. Three males matching the description given to police were located in the Terrace Road and Sydenham Road.  Given the possibility of a weapon involved, officers conducted a gunpoint arrest and all three were taken into custody without incident.  During a search after arrest, officers seized knives from two of the males.  One of the males was released unconditionally.

As a result of the investigation:

A 15-year-old Peterborough male was charged with:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Carrying a concealed weapon

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court, May 26, 2025.

A 19-year-old Peterborough man was charged with:

  • Carry a concealed weapon
  • Fail to Comply with a Probation Order

The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following condition: to not possess any weapon as defined by the Criminal Code

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in Weekend and Statutory Holiday (WASH) court today, April 12, 2025.

 

Counterfeit Money Investigation

The Peterborough Police Service is issuing a warning after three reported incidents of counterfeit money being used in the city in the past week.

Two of the incidents happened on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 and were reported on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, when it was discovered the transactions were made with counterfeit bills.

In the first incident, it was reported that a man had entered a store in the Chemong Road and Towerhill Road area on April 8th at about 1:20pm and purchased items with five $20 bills that were later determined to be counterfeit.

In the second, it was reported that a man had used 22 counterfeit $20 bills to purchase an item at a store in the Lansdowne Street and Park Street South area. That transaction happened about 10:40am on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

A third incident happened early Saturday morning, at approximately 12:30am on April 12, 2025, officers were called to downtown business in the King Street and George Street area. Upon arrival, they learned that a man had purchased several items over the course of the evening and that it was determined the $100 bills he had been using were fake.    

As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Uttering Counterfeit Money
  • Breach of Recognizance X2

The accused is currently bound by two recognizance orders with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court May 20, 2025.

The investigation into these incidents is ongoing.
