Theft Arrests

A 57-year-old Brampton man wanted on a warrant for multiple theft incidents between August 2024 and April 2025 was arrested in Peterborough Wednesday.

At approximately 4:15pm on April 16, 2025, officers were called to the Home Depot store at Lansdowne Street and Park Street. Upon arrival, officers saw two men matching the description given to police exiting the store and took them into custody.  During the investigation, officers were made aware of an incident on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in which the two men entered the store and only paid for some of the items in the cart at the self-checkout before leaving.

As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old Brampton man was arrested on the strength of the warrant and charged with:

  • Theft under $5000 X15

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, April 17, 2025.

The second man, a 27-year-old Brampton man was charged with:

  • Theft under $5000 X3

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court May 27, 2025.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered

The Peterborough Police Service continues to warn residents about protecting their vehicles from theft.

Over the past three weeks there have been a number of thefts or attempted thefts of Toyota brand vehicles.  Most recently, officers were called after a Lexus SUV was taken from a driveway in the Spillsbury Drive and Forster Avenue area in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 16, 2025. While officers were investigating, it was learned that the vehicle was located on Pontypool Road between Highway 35 and Porter Road.  The vehicle had a damaged sunroof, steering column and front tire.

Anyone with information is asked to call Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.stopcrimehere.ca

As the focus continues to be on Toyota vehicles, mainly trucks, larger and luxury SUVs.  We are asking residents with these vehicles to be extra vigilant.

Consider taking the following precautions:

  • parking another vehicle in front of the vehicle or in your garage, if possible, to make it difficult for thieves to drive off
  • if your vehicle comes with a tracking system, please make sure it is installed and activated
  • using a theft deterrent device
  • if you spot any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please report it to Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x225 or 9-1-1 if it is an emergency or crime in progress.
