Firearm Incident Suspects Sought – UPDATE

The Peterborough Police Service is providing an update on a shooting incident in November 2024.

Since that time, officers with Investigative Services have made several arrests and have been actively searching for several others after connecting four Peterborough teenagers to the incident.

In November 2024, two teens were arrested.

A 16-year-old Peterborough male was charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited Firearm
  • Careless Use of Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Discharge a Firearm into or at a Place in a Reckless Manner
  • Utter Threats to Cause Death
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence x2
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x2

 A 19-year-old Norwood man was charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited Firearm
  • Careless Use of Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Discharge a Firearm into or at a Place in a Reckless Manner
  • Utter Threats to Cause Death
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Both are currently before the courts.

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, a third teen wanted in connection with the shooting turned himself in to police. Officers with the Emergency Response Team and K9 attended a residence in Peterborough and took the teen into custody without incident. 

As a result, a 16-year-old Peterborough male was arrested on the strength of the warrant and charged with:

  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition
  • Discharge a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence X5
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order X4

The teen is being held in custody and will appear in court today, January 16, 2024. 

The Peterborough Police Service continues to search for a fourth teen believed to be involved in this incident.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

 

Traffic Stop/Warrant Arrest

A 47-year-old Peterborough man wanted on warrants was arrested after a traffic stop in Peterborough Wednesday night.

At approximately 8:00pm on January 15, 2025, an officer on general patrol spotted a cyclist with no lights on riding his bicycle in the Dalhousie Street and Park Street North area.  The officer conducted a traffic stop and during the stop learned the man was wanted for obstructing a police officer, failing to comply with an appearance notice and theft under $5000 X2.

As a result, a 47-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on the strength of the warrant and is being held in custody.  He will appear in court today, January 16, 2025.
