Assault Arrest

A 19-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after an incident Tuesday night.

At approximately 10:20pm on May 13, 2025, officers were called to the area of Bethune Street and King Street after a report of an altercation in the street. Upon arrival, officers learned that one male struck another man with a case of alcoholic beverages and then continued kicking and punching the man while he was on the ground before fleeing. The victim was treated at the scene by EMS. Officers started searching the area and located a man matching the description given to police in the river near Donegal Street and McDonnel Street, he was taken into custody in the area of Downie Street and McDonnel Street after running on the road.  During a search after arrest, officers seized:

  • 16.7 grams of Cocaine
  • 35.3 grams of Fentanyl
  • Cell phones
  • Over $800 in Canadian Currency

As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault
  • Assault with A Weapon
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court May 14, 2025.

 

Distraction Thefts

Officers with the Peterborough Police Service are investigating after several reports of a distraction theft in the past week.

At approximately 11:00am on Saturday, May 10, 2025, an 86-year-old man was approached by a vehicle in the Clonsilla Avenue and Ford Street area.  The victim thought they were asking for directions however, the driver put a fake gold ring in his hand. When the victim then bent down to speak to the female passenger, she grabbed his face and put a heavy gold chain around his neck while seeming to be praying for his well-being.  The victim noticed later that night that his own gold necklace was gone.

At approximately 2:50pm on Monday, May 12, 2025, an 86-year-old man was approached by a vehicle while walking in the Stewart Street and Rubidge Street area.  While speaking to the female passenger it’s believed his necklace was exchanged for a fake one.

At approximately 2:10pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, a 66-year-old woman was approached by a vehicle in a parking lot in the Clonsilla Avenue and Goodfellow Road area. While speaking to the female passenger, the victim said her gold chain was exchanged for a fake gold chain.

In each of the instances, it was reported that there was a male driving, a female in the passenger seat and one or two children in the back seat.  The adults had accents and were in their 40’s.

  • Nova Scotia plate HCL 257
