Arson Investigation

Officers with the Peterborough Police Service are investigating after a fire at an outbuilding of a business in Peterborough.

At approximately 8:20am on November 20, 2024, officers were called to the corner of Aylmer Street and King Street about a fire in a shed.  Upon arrival, the fire had already been extinguished by Peterborough Fire Services, however, the cause of the fire is believed to be suspicious at this time.  No one was injured.

The Ontario Fire Marshal will be attending the scene today for their investigation.

Theft Arrest

A 53-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident at a Peterborough business.

At approximately 6:10pm on November 20, 2024, officers with the Community FIRST Unit were called about a theft in progress at a grocery store in the Borden Avenue and The Kingsway area. Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description given to police and could see items falling from the man’s clothing. He was taken into custody.  Over $300 in product was recovered and returned to the store.

As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old Peterborough was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court January 7, 2025.
