A 45-year-old Douro-Dummer man is facing impaired charges after an incident early Wednesday morning.

At approximately 12:05am on October 1, 2025, an officer on general patrol spotted a vehicle being driven erratically in the Water and Hilliard Street area.  The officer activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop.  Upon speaking with the driver, the officer noticed signs of impairment and conducted a roadside test.  During a search after arrest, officers located a dozen open alcohol cans in the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old Douro-Dummer man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs (Initial test)
  • Failure or Refusal to comply with Demand (Secondary test)
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit
  • Drive without proper headlights – Motor Vehicle

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court November 25, 2025.

School Crossing Guard Reminder

The Peterborough Police Service reminds motorists that they must wait until the crossing guard and students are safely off the roadway before proceeding.

As we enter the second month of back to school, the Traffic Unit reminds motorists that they must wait until all pedestrians (crossing guards and students) are safely off the road before proceeding - this includes making a turn or continuing straight.

Failure to do so could result in the following fines:

  • In a Community Safety Zone:

Ticket: $730 and 4 demerit points

  • Not in a Community Safety Zone:

Ticket: $365 and 4 demerit points.
