Theft Arrest
A 34-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident at a Peterborough business Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 4:40pm on September 20, 2023, officers were called to the business in the Park Street and Lansdowne Street area about a male who had left the store without paying for items. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a man matching the description given to police. PC Wentworth with the assistance of Police Service Dog (PSD) Gryphon was able to prevent the suspect from fleeing. During the arrest the suspect dropped a backpack and officers could see he had a knife in his hand. The suspect complied with demands to drop the knife and was taken into custody without incident. The store property was located and returned to the business.
It was further learned that the suspect was wanted on two outstanding warrants.
As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Theft Under $5000
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court October 17, 2023.
Theft Arrest
A 23-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident at a Peterborough business Wednesday evening.
At approximately 7:00pm on September 20, 2023, officers were called to the business in the Park Street and Lansdowne Street area. Upon arrival, officers learned that a male had left the store without paying for items. They learned from an off-duty OPP officer that the male had headed north on Park Street and was near the Knights of Columbus Park. PC Wentworth and PSD Gryphon arrived in the area and were directed to a man matching the description given to police. PC Wentworth with the assistance of PSD Gryphon was able to prevent the suspect from fleeing. The suspect threw the property to the ground and was taken into custody without incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Theft Under $5000
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused is currently bound by a probation order with the following conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, September 21, 2023.
Impaired Arrest
A 34-year-old Peterborough woman is facing impaired charges after an incident Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 4:50pm on September 20, 2023, officers were called to a parking lot in the Chemong Road and Towerhill Road by an off-duty OPP officer about a possible impaired driver. Upon arrival, officers learned the off-duty officer had concerns about the driver’s ability to drive safely and prevented her from leaving the area. The officers also noticed signs of impairment with the driver.
As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven day vehicle impound.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court October 10, 2023.
