Theft Arrest

A 44-year-old Brampton man is facing charges after an incident at a Peterborough business Monday night.

At approximately 7:00pm on January 13, 2025, officers were called to the Home Depot at Lansdowne Street and Park Street about two suspicious males. Upon arrival, officers spotted a white van believed to be involved in the parking lot.  Officers conducted a traffic stop with emergency lights and while speaking to the driver, the driver reversed, struck another vehicle, almost hit a police cruiser and took off.  Officers then located a second man matching the description given to police in the parking lot and took him into custody. During a search after arrest, officers located items from the store and several pieces of identification that did not belong to the suspect.

As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old Brampton man was arrested and charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada X2

The accused is also wanted for similar offences in other jurisdictions.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, January 14, 2025.

Assault Arrest

Two Peterborough men in their 20’s are facing charges after an incident Monday afternoon. 

At approximately 1:50pm on January 13, 2025, officers were called to a residence in the Bellevue Street and Chemong Road area about a disturbance.  Upon arrival, officers learned that a female had gone to the residence to return some property to a former partner.  During a verbal dispute at the time of the exchange, one of the men that accompanied the woman threw a hammer at the victim and a second man was holding a knife before all three fled the area. Officers located the two men and took them into custody.

As a result of the investigation:

A 22-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault with A Weapon
  • Disobeying Order of Court

The accused is currently bound by a court order to not possess any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, January 14, 2025.

 

A 20-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court

The accused is currently bound by a release order to not possess any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, January 14, 2025.

 

Warrant Arrest

A 50-year-old Peterborough man wanted on a warrant was arrested Monday evening.

At approximately 5:00pm on January 13, 2025, officers with the Community FIRST Unit were on general patrol in the George Street and Simcoe Street area when they spotted a man known to be wanted on a warrant for failing to comply with probation X2.  They approached the man and took him into custody on the strength of the warrant.

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, January 14, 2025.
