Ice Storm Response – April 2, 2025

With more weather expected later today (April 2, 2025) a reminder to only call 9-1-1 in an emergency situation.   This will help keep lines open for those requiring emergency assistance.

Keep checking in on neighbours and loved ones.  Currently, Environment Canada is forecasting potential freezing rain turning to rain overnight. 

Drive with care if you are on the roads and continue to treat intersections without power as four-way stop.

Questions about power outages and restoration times should be directed to Hydro One by Hydro One can be reached at 1-800-434-1235 or text 92887 or via the app.

Downed trees and branches questions can be directed to Public Works at 705-745-1386.

Stolen Vehicle Investigation – Update

A second vehicle stolen on March 26, 2025 has been recovered.  On Sunday, March 30, 2025, officers with Peel Regional Police found the 2022 Corolla that was taken from a Park Street South residence.  The suspect has not been located.

The Land Cruiser taken the same night has also not been located.

Impaired Arrest

A 44-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 2:15am on April 1, 2025, an officer on general patrol conducted a traffic stop in the area of Lansdowne Street and High Street.  They learned that the driver was a suspended driver and through the course of the interaction noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court May 13, 2025.
