Fire
The Peterborough Police Service and Ontario Fire Marshal are investigating after a fatal fire in Peterborough early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 3:30am on January 7, 2026, officers were made aware of a residential fire in the area of McDonnel Street and Park Street North.
A 27-year-old Peterborough man was found inside the residence and taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) where despite lifesaving measures he was pronounced dead. Two other people in the home were taken to PRHC for treatment.
There will be police vehicles in the area as the Peterborough Police Service and Ontario Fire Marshal continue their investigation.

Festive RIDE/Impaired Results
Officers with the Peterborough Police Service made 11 impaired driving arrests between December 12 – December 31, 2025.
- 9 alcohol and/or drug
- 2 refusal to comply with demand
Several Festive RIDE checks were also conducted during this time in Peterborough, Lakefield, and Cavan-Monaghan with the following results:
- Total Vehicle Checks: 2,397
- Total Roadside Tests: 140
The Peterborough Police Service reminds drivers that impaired is impaired. RIDE checks will continue throughout 2026, and motorists are reminded to plan ahead. If you spot a possible impaired driver, please call 9-1-1.
