Traffic Complaint – Lakefield
Recently, the Peterborough Police Service was made aware of an ongoing traffic complaint in the Village of Lakefield.
The complaint was connected to drivers not stopping for school buses with their red lights activated. School buses will activate their yellow warning lights as they are stopping and then their red lights and safety arm was stopped. Traffic travelling in both directions is required to stop when the red lights and safety arm are activated.
On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, an officer with the Traffic Services Unit was assigned to attend the area of Queen Street and Bridge Street to observe the after-school traffic. While there were zero bus infractions, the officer did stop a 33-year-old driver. During the stop, the officer noticed an odour of alcohol and conducted a roadside test.
As a result, the driver was charged with:
- Failing to stop for a stop sign
- Failing to have their license
- Vehicle without validated permit
- Failing to have insurance card
- Novice driver BAC above zero
- 3-day license suspension for having a blood alcohol level in the warn range
