Crime Prevention Week 2023
The Peterborough Police Service is participating in Crime Prevention Week 2023, which runs from November 5, 2023 to November 11, 2023. This year the theme is “Awareness. Engagement. Prevention”.
“Crime prevention is an important part of community safety and a way everyone can participate in keeping their communities safe. It’s important that residents report crime or suspicious activity to police. Through reports, whether it’s 9-1-1, the non-emergency line or online reporting portal, we can learn about the crime trends in our community and work toward proactive measures. Fraud Arrest
A 55-year-old Pontypool woman is facing numerous charges in connection with frauds spanning a decade at a Peterborough business.
In June of 2022, the business owners alerted police after finding financial discrepancies related to their company’s financial statements. The business owners had conducted a full audit dated back to 2011 when the woman started her employment and determined that almost $330,000 had been taken through various means.
Officers with the Fraud Unit conducted an investigation and reviewed the information provided by the business.
As a result, a 55-year-old Pontypool woman was arrested and charged with:
- Fraud Over $5000.00
- Theft Over $5000.00
- Falsification of Books and Documents
- Mischief to Data
- Unauthorized Use of Credit Card Data
- Unauthorized Use of Computer
The accused was held for bail and appeared in court on Friday, November 3, 2023, at which time she was given a next court date of November 21, 2023.
Break & Enter Suspects Sought
Incident #1
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a break and enter to a business recently.
On Friday, November 3, 2023, officers were made aware that sometime between 5:00pm on November 2 and 8:00am on November 3, 2023, a business in the area of Bethune Street and Murray Street was broken into. The owner arrived to work Friday morning to find a window smashed and several items stolen.

Incident #2
The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a residential break and enter in Peterborough.
At approximately 3:50pm on Friday, November 3, 2023, officers were called to a residence in the Paterson Street and Monaghan Road area after the homeowners reported they returned home from work to find a door had been kicked in. Upon arrival, officers learned that several items had been taken including a knife collection.

Warrant/Theft Arrest
A 37-year-old Peterborough woman arrested on a warrant has also been charged in connection with a retail theft from October.
On Saturday, November 4, 2023, officers were called about an unwanted person in the area of Erskine Avenue and The Kingsway. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a person nearby. They further learned that the woman was wanted on warrants and took her into custody.
As a result, a 37-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested on the strength of the warrants and charged with:
- Theft Under $5000
- Fail to Comply with Undertaking
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Sunday, November 5, 2023, and is scheduled to be back in court today, November 6, 2023.
Traffic Stop Arrest
A 35-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
At approximately 1:50am on November 4, 2023, an officer on general patrol spotted a vehicle being driven erratically in the Aylmer Street and Dalhousie Street area. The officer continued to monitor the vehicle as it made its way along Lansdowne Street to Brealey Drive where the officer was able to safely conduct a traffic stop. During the stop, officers learned that the accused was currently bound by a release order with the following conditions to not occupy the driver’s seat of a vehicle unless lawfully permitted to do so.
As a result of the stop, a 35-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

- Fail to comply with Release Order
Highway Traffic Act:
- Driving while under suspension
- Drive motor vehicle, no permit
- Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates
- Drive motor vehicle not equipped with ignition interlock device
- Class G1 licence holder - Unaccompanied by a qualified driver
- Make false statement
- Fail to have insurance card
The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Saturday, November 4, 2023, and is scheduled to be back in court today, November 6, 2023.
